Members who have resigned from SAPOL and elected to retain their accrued police pension benefit until Age 55 are known as “preserved members”.
Preserved members become eligible to receive their police pension entitlement when they attain 55 years of age whether they have retired from the work force or not.
At age 55 a preserved member has the option to take their police pension as a lifetime payment adjusted twice annually (April and October) by the Consumer Price Index (for Adelaide), or commute part or all of the pension to a lump sum payment.
